How the video converter works
A video file has two parts: the container (MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM) and the compressed video and sound inside it. Your file is uploaded over HTTPS and examined with FFmpeg on Rekreate's servers.
If the video and sound inside are already allowed in the format you chose — for example H.264 video from an iPhone going from MOV to MP4 — they are copied into the new container without re-encoding, which is instant and lossless. If not — for example WebM going to MP4 — the video is re-encoded to H.264 with AAC sound (or VP9 with Opus for WebM). Uploads are deleted after processing, results after 60 minutes.
