A 4K video from a new phone is far bigger than most places need. An old 480p clip looks small next to everything else. Resizing changes the number of pixels and nothing else: same picture, same length, different resolution.

Rekreate's free video resizer converts to 4K, 1440p, 1080p, 720p, 480p or 360p. Vertical videos keep their shape, and the result is a clean MP4.

Why use this free video resizer

Change video resolution in one click

Pick the resolution you need and download.

Resize without stretching

Proportions are always kept, so faces and text never look squashed.

Works for vertical videos

720p means 720 pixels on the short side, so a vertical phone video becomes 720×1280, not a squashed horizontal one.

Reduce 4K to 1080p

Smaller files that are easier to share, with no visible difference on a phone.

Upscale to 1080p

Enlarge smaller videos with a high-quality scaler so they match your other clips.

No watermark, no sign-up

Free and clean.

How to resize a video in 3 steps

  1. Upload the video

Drop it into the box at the top or tap to choose it.

  2. Choose the resolution

    4K, 1440p, 1080p, 720p, 480p or 360p.

  3. Download the resized video

Press Start and save the MP4.

How resolution affects file size

4K (2160p) ~45 Mbps 1440p ~20 Mbps 1080p ~10 Mbps 720p ~5 Mbps 480p ~2.5 Mbps
Typical rates for ordinary footage. Each step down roughly halves the size.

HD at a much smaller size, good for email and messaging.

Reduce to 480p or 360p

Very small files for slow connections or previews.

Upscale to 4K or 1440p

Match a smaller video to 4K footage in a project.

Use the video resizer on any device

On Windows PC and Mac

Resize videos in any browser on Windows or Mac, with no editing software.

On iPhone and Android

On iPhone or Android, pick a video from your gallery and save the resized version.

In any modern browser

Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox all work. There is no app, plugin or extension to install — the processing happens on our servers, so an old laptop is as fast as a new one.

Safe, private and free

No account, no sign-up

Open the page and use it. There is nothing to register and no email address to hand over.

Files deleted automatically

Your upload is deleted the moment processing finishes, and the result 60 minutes later. Files are not shared, published or used for anything else.

Encrypted in transit

Uploads and downloads go over HTTPS, the same encryption your bank uses in the browser.

No watermark, ever

The file you download is clean. No logo in the corner, no intro card, no "made with" frame at the end.

Resizing vs other ways to change a video

vs. compressing

Resizing lowers the resolution; compressing lowers the file size at the same resolution. For the smallest file, do both.

vs. cropping

Resizing keeps the whole picture. Cropping cuts part of it away.

vs. desktop converters

They work, after an install. This works in the browser.

Popular uses for the video resizer

Shrink a 4K phone video to share it

Drop to 1080p for a much smaller file.

Prepare a video for a website

720p or 1080p loads faster for visitors.

Match clips before editing

Resize everything to one resolution.

Upscale an old video

Enlarge a 480p clip to 1080p for a modern project.

Make a video fit an upload limit

A lower resolution means a smaller file.

How the video resizer works

Your video is uploaded over HTTPS and processed on Rekreate's servers with FFmpeg. The resizer sets the short side of the frame to your chosen resolution and scales the long side to keep the proportions exact, rounded to an even number so the video plays everywhere. Enlarging uses the Lanczos scaler for the sharpest result.

The video is encoded as H.264 MP4 with the original sound. Uploads are deleted after processing, results after 60 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize a video for free?

Upload it above, choose the resolution, and press Start. Download the resized MP4.

How do I change a video from 4K to 1080p?

Choose 1080p. The file becomes much smaller with no visible difference on most screens.

Will resizing stretch my video?

No. The proportions are always kept.

What does 720p mean for a vertical video?

720 pixels on the short side, so a vertical video becomes 720×1280.

Can I make a video higher resolution?

Yes, choose a larger size. Enlarging cannot add detail that was not recorded, but a high-quality scaler keeps it as sharp as possible.

Does resizing reduce the file size?

Lowering the resolution does, significantly. For an exact size, use the video compressor.

Can I resize a video on my phone?

Yes, on iPhone and Android.

Which resolution should I choose?

1080p for most uses, 720p to save space, 4K only when the source is 4K and the destination supports it.

Is there a watermark?

No.

What is the maximum size?

Up to 95 MB and 10 minutes.

What is the difference between resizing and cropping?

Resizing keeps the whole picture at a new size. Cropping removes part of the picture.

Is the sound changed?

No, the original sound is kept.
