Rekreate's free video to GIF converter builds a custom color palette from your clip first, so the GIF keeps the colors of the actual video.
Choose where it starts, how long it lasts (up to 15 seconds), how wide it is and how smooth it plays. The GIF loops forever by default.

This GIF maker vs other ways to make a GIF
vs. basic converters
Most use a generic 256-color palette, which looks grainy. This one builds a palette from your video.
vs. GIF apps
Many add a watermark or limit the size in the free version.
vs. screen recording a GIF
Recording your screen loses quality twice. Converting the original video keeps it sharp.

How the GIF maker works
Your video is uploaded over HTTPS and processed on Rekreate's servers with FFmpeg. The part you chose is resized and set to your frame rate, then analyzed to build the best 256-color palette for that exact clip, weighting the parts that move. The GIF is then drawn with that palette and a pattern dither that keeps gradients smooth and the file small.
The GIF is set to loop forever. Uploads are deleted after processing, results after 60 minutes.
