How the silence remover works
Your file is uploaded over HTTPS and processed on Rekreate's servers with FFmpeg. First the sound is scanned for stretches quieter than the level you chose that last longer than your minimum pause. Those stretches are removed from the picture and the sound together, leaving the pause length you picked at each cut, and the rest is joined into one file.
Videos come back as MP4; audio comes back in its own format. If no pauses are found, you are told instead of getting an unchanged file. Uploads are deleted after processing, results after 60 minutes.

d=0.7- Only pauses longer than 0.7 seconds.
silenceremove only shortens the sound. For video, both streams have to be cut at the same points — which is what the tool above does.

How do I remove silence from a video for free?

Can I remove silence from an audio file?

"Normal room" for most recordings. "Quiet room" for a studio mic. "Noisy background" if there is a fan, traffic or air conditioning.
Why did it say no pauses were found?
Background noise was louder than the silence level. Choose "Noisy background", or a shorter minimum pause.
Can it remove "um" and "uh"?
No. Filler words are as loud as speech, so they are not silence. The tool removes quiet pauses only.
Does it work on podcasts with background music?
Not well — music under the voice means nothing is quiet enough to count as silence. Use it on the voice recording before adding music.
Can I use it on my phone?
